There are definitely things like this: you know you should do it, but for some reason, you can’t take the step.

For example, you hate to go to the gym, although you know that’s good for you. Or, there’s an important email that you know you have to reply to, but it’s tricky, and you are not motivated at all to do that.

Cool. You might think that, in the case of the gym, I am just someone who doesn’t like to work out.

That’s a simple conclusion, and that’s not from you but your brain.

Our brain likes to escape from reality.

Because facing the truth is painful, and it is one of the mechanisms of our brain to protect us from the pain.

Now I would like you to think of an example that you know is good for you, but you are just not taking any action about, e.g., the hate of going to the gym.

Do you really hate going to the gym?

Picture a time when you go to the gym. Let’s say it was a great morning, you were dragging yourself out of bed, had to find your gym clothes, and then drove 10 minutes to the gym.

The picture is clear now, you might not hate to go to the gym, but specifically, go to the gym “in the morning”.

Let's twist it a little: bring your gym clothes to work, and go to the gym after work.

In this case, you do not have to overcome all the blockers you were facing back then.

Of course, you might find new obstacles with the new approach, but the main thing is:

You have clearly understood the reason you dislike something, and experiment with it BEFORE forming a conclusion about hating it.

I do hope you can think of one for yourself, and do that one thing you need to do, but have been avoiding for a long time.

Cheers.
