If money weren’t a problem, what would you want to do in the next 5 years?
We have a vague idea that we know there’s something we might like, and we will only be able to do it after being financially free. However, without knowing what this is, it could keep us always in a state of feeling loss and unsure about the meaning of why we are making money.
This would lead to a problem: Because we do not know what we love to do, we wouldn’t know how much money to make to allow us to do what we love. The financial freedom figure would keep growing.
Now, please take out a pen and paper (or type it somewhere, but I suggest writing it down).
This will take 30 minutes of your time.
Please figure out this problem for yourself.
Ask yourself:
“What would you spend the next 5 years doing if money were no longer a concern?” (Paint the picture: places, people, projects, lifestyle.)
“Why do these things matter to you?” (Is it freedom, creativity, connection, health, impact?)
“How would you feel living that life?” (Relief? Excitement? Peace? Pride?)
Then here’s an important one:
“Which parts of that vision can you start experiencing now in smaller ways, even without unlimited money?”
… and the final question:
“What’s one small action you will take this week that brings a piece of that 'ideal future' into your present?”
Now you have an answer. However, do note that this answer changes. It might change when you move into a new stage of life, or something crosses your mind.
And it is fine to change. You can save these prompts somewhere or revisit this post. You can even do it quarterly to check if things have changed.
You don’t need to quit your job tomorrow.
But you can bring a piece of that vision into your current life:
If you want to travel? You can start by exploring your own city every weekend.
If you want more family time? Block out one evening a week just for them.
If you want to write? Just commit to 15 minutes a day first.
I have wanted to dive into the creation work in the digital space. It could be an animation video, a game, or an AR/VR experience. Besides, I also want to take care of my health, because I clearly know this is the biggest asset that I have for the next many years.
I am starting to reboot, and I don’t want to live unclearly.
This kind of weekly prompt is something that I will ask myself and will share them to you all.
